This year’s RainBucket was a rousing success. Despite the cold weather and the subsequent fire issues, RainBucket had a turn out of about 400 people, including a large number of Rovers.

People started to arrive around noon on the Friday, and it took no time for the road to become a mud pit as it had been in previous years. However the temperature quickly dropped to a chilly -10, and the staff woke up to -5 in the large warming tent. It was not soon after that the pre-Rovent jokes began to fly.

Like any good Rover camp, opening ran at 10am RST (Rover Standard Time). Which for all those of you out there new to rovers means opening started 30 minutes late. Several events were held including Bean Bieber (slingshots), scavenger hunt, hockey and the infamous eating contest.

This years eating contest was a record year with six people vomiting and one person becoming ill afterward. Don’t worry the person who was sick felt better after puking up their dinner behind their tent. Following the theme of Canadian Eh, the first round was wasabi pancakes, and what are pancakes if they’re not followed up with a cup of maple syrup. The third round was a teaspoon of cinnamon and some dried apples. Next was a candy cane with some chocolate with extra pulpy orange juice.Think of brushing your teeth then having some orange juice. After that was a cup of beef jerky soaked in ridiculously hot salsa. Next was a harmless marsh-mellow, it just happened to be covered in cod liver oil. To top it all off, for the final round the first seven rounds were put into a blender and blender to a nice thick paste. There was also the choice to substitute a mystery item, if you didn’t want to eat the rounds gross food. The two mystery items on the other hand were liver and cow tongue so not much better

A quick roundtable was held to discuss upcoming events as well as the spring moot. The idea of a road trip to CJ and World Moot was brought up and a lot of people seemed on board. The next roundtable is set for January 15th at Camp Mclean.

As per usual RainBucket had a large bonfire, but this year due to the cold weather, there were some technical difficulties lighting the fire. But it was nothing that some petroleum based accelerates couldn’t handle. And RainBucket staff would like to thank Grant again for the great job he did DJing the dance, also a thanks to Mark for coming out to do the lighting for the night.

I personally had a great camp and I am looking forward to seeing you guys out at other events. If you have any comments, questions, concerns, money, abuse, that kinda thing, you can email me Brad@civl.ca or hit me up on Twitter @Rovingscout
