This past weekend (April 27th – 29th) was the latest Rover Moot for BC Rovers, and it was a huge success. Much like the fall moot, it was the perfect balance of information and activities, while still letting people have the opportunity to just use it as a getaway to relax for the weekend.

Friday night was calm, mostly just people arriving and personally, I got to meet a few new people that I hung out with throughout the weekend. There was a four hour game of “Apples to Apples” that ended up with most of us never wanting to play the game again. Then, because of the genius idea to make a twitter board (literally twitter on a white board, ’cause we have a problem), we simply had to stay up for #2amrollcall, after which everybody crashed.

Nick running his Leave No Trace session

Saturday was full of activities. After Flag break, Mark started the day off with the ‘What’s a Rover?’ session, followed shortly by the obstacle course. After lunch, there was a full-contact game of Capture the Flag, both the obstacle course and capture the flag was organized by a new Rover, Brady. Nick ran the ‘Leave No Trace’ session and Melissa ran the perfectly timed Hot Lips competition just before dinner. The night ended with a campfire full of songs and skits put together by Emma. Rovers as we do, ended up conversing carousing into the night on all topics under the sun(or the moon as the case may be).

Sunday morning was spent cleaning up camp, and even though we didn’t want to leave, we closed the camp and headed home.

All in all it was a pretty great weekend, full of both old and new faces. It seems like everybody who came out (Senior Venturers, Rovers and Advisors) had a good time, and we look forward to the next one. Special Thanks for our Moot Chief Michael from the 7th Mountain Crew and give a round of applause to everybody who worked so hard on planning this weekend. We would also be remiss to not thank our wonderful cooks and advisors for the weekend who worked hard in the kitchen feeding 60 hungry Rovers!

If you’re got photos of the Moot, whynot add them to the RoversBC Flickr group, or post links to your photos in the Moot section on the forums!

Hello Rovers!

Love the social camps, but want more adventure in your weekend? Camp Coyote promises to deliver!

Camp Coyote is a high-adventure social camp that will change the face of social camps. We saw a niche and we jumped on it. We want to celebrate Canada Day with you! Camp dates are June 29 – July 2, 2012.

Hosted at Camp Barnard in Sooke, BC, the Greater Victoria Area welcomes you to the brainchild of a couple of Rovers with an idea. We’ll have transportation from and to the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, so you can walk on worry free!

Our program includes elements such as Wildplay (Monkido course in WestShore) and rock climbing, on REAL ROCKS! Seriously, it’s awesome. Plus swimming, raft building, GPS course/geocaching, service projects and much, much more.

Plus we’re trying something new – Rovers and Link members are welcome to camp without their Advisors. Of course, Advisors are always welcome and encouraged, but Rovers can get approval and camp solo. VENTURERS AND RANGERS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO HAVE ADVISORS PRESENT AT CAMP.

Pre-registration offers optional perks like us making your meals for you, and Wildplay. (These aren’t free, but they’re pretty amazing. Not having to cook, but have delicious and nutritious meals prepared for you that will cater to dietary needs? Sign me up! An awesome off-site adventure? Sign me up double! )

Registration will start just after Skeeter. We’ll be bringing registration packages to Skeeter and promote there. If you just can’t wait, hit up the website, the Twitter, Facebook, or email! (We’re super accessible. We want to hear from you!)

Skeeter is open to registered members of Scouts Canada (14 years and older) and registered members of Girl Guides of Canada (15 years and older). Skeeter staff provide you with a weekend full of camping, fun activities, opportunities to hang out with your old friends, and maybe make a few new ones! All you are required to do is to provide the proper paperwork, supervision, all your own gear and food for the entire weekend. This year’s activities include (but are not limited to): off site scavenger hunt, Mexican water gunfight, eating contest (what you will be eating shall remain a surprise!), a campsite decorating contest, giant slip & slide, jello wrestling, and of course the dances!

How do you get more information? Or how do you register? Check out their registration page. Here you will be able to find and download the 2012 registration package. Here you will also be able to register online for camp to help speed up the process when you arrive at camp.

Your registration fee includes admission to camp, all of the activities, and a delicious pancake breakfast provided on Monday morning. You are required to provide your own food and gear for the entire weekend as you will not be allowed to leave the camp. Transportation will be provided to/from camp for folks who will be walking on the ferry (Check out our ferry pick up schedule here). Offsite parking will be provided for folks who bring their own vehicles to camp, as we do not have enough space at the campsite for everyone.

Want the latest updates about what is going on? Check out our Facebook page or our Twitter page.

Have any further questions, comments or concerns? Email us at info@skeeter.ca
